Overview:

A healthier life span, one free from chronic, disabling diseases and conditions, preventable infections and serious injury, is an obtainable goal for most individuals in the United States. Graduates of our Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Health Promotion Program are qualified to provide the information and skills necessary to help individuals make informed decisions about lifestyle and personal health behaviors which can play an important role in preventing and controlling many current health problems.  Health Promotion professionals become community resources by communicating health and health education needs in classrooms, retirement homes, community centers and wherever social and professional groups meet. 

Our Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Health Promotion degree is accredited by the Joint Committee of the Society for Public Health Education and the American Association for Health Education (SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Committee SABPAC). It prepares graduates to function as professionals in health promotion and health education in a variety of settings including:

  • Government agencie 
  • Private, for-profit  businesses
  • Public and private schools
  • Non-governmental health and social service agencies

Health Promotion majors at UTEP complete a common core of courses in Health Science and select a minor in Community Health or another approved area such as Education, Biology, Business, Anthropology, Sociology or Psychology.  These classes contribute to a broad general education as well as provide basic skills, experiences, and professional expertise. Graduates work in planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating health education/ promotion programs and activities.
