Admission Process
1. Complete application online at www.utep.edu/graduate/.
2. Direct all transcripts and graduate entrance exams scores (GRE, TOEFL) to be sent directly to the Graduate School:

3. The following items may be sent electronically with the application or sent directly to the IHS PhD Program Office:

1) Three letters of recommendation from individuals qualified to assess potential for doctoral work;
2) A 500-word personal statement that describes relevant research experiences, potential research interest, future career aspirations, and other important considerations; and
3) Other evidence of relevant personal or professional experience, such as a resume or curriculum vitae, which would support your application.
4. Once the application packet is completed, applicant will meet (either in person or via telephone/email) with the Program Director, who will recommend several faculty members as potential advisors for the applicant. The applicant is then to visit with these faculty members and others that the applicant may want to consider for an advisor.
5. The applicant is to inform the IHS PhD Program Office when an advisor has been identified and who has agreed to serve as the applicant’s advisor.
6. An interview (either in person or via telephone) will be scheduled with the potential advisor, the IHS PhD Program’s Director and Coordinator, and representatives of the program’s Executive Council.
7. A letter from the IHS PhD Program and the Graduate School will be sent to the applicant notifying him/her of the admission decision.
