Greetings and welcome to the Physical Therapy Program of the University of Texas at El Paso!
The College of Health Sciences and the university overall is experiencing rapid advancement. The new Health Sciences and Nursing building has opened on main campus on Wiggins across from the library. It is a beautiful, state of the art building. While some classes for the DPT students will be taught at the new building, the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will remain housed at Campbell Hall at 1101 N Campbell along with the rest of the Rehabilitation Sciences Department.
Physical Therapy is a very dynamic profession with generalist as well as specialist opportunities for practice. There is high demand for our graduates in this region as well as across the state and nation. Physical Therapists are respected members of the health care team with many opportunities to practice with children and adults in settings such as geriatrics, sports rehabilitation, orthopedics, wound care, acute care, women’s health, pediatrics, neurorehabilitation, research, education, and many others. Physical therapists are well paid but the most gratifying aspect of this profession is the satisfaction we have from helping people achieve their personal best in physical function. We are a caring profession.
The Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree requires 8 consecutive semesters, full-time, in a lock-step program. Students enter in May and graduate in December, 2 ½ years later. The program is both challenging and rewarding. Following graduation, students are eligible to take the national licensure exam. Successful outcome on the licensure examination qualifies the graduate to work in any of the 50 states. We are fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), recognized by United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
CAPTE Accreditation information can be found at: http://www.capteonline.org/home.aspx
